It starts 3 months before you turn 65, includes the month that you do so, and ends 3 months after you turn 65. If  you’re not already collecting Social Security benefits before your initial enrollment period starts, you’ll need to sign up for Medicare online or contact Social Security.

Your coverage start date will depend on when you signed up in IEP:

The month you turn 65 1 month after you sign up
1 month after you turn 65 2 months after you sign up
